This was one of hundreds of his signature techniques; Eddie uses the actual volume control on his guitar along with a combination of tapping [not picking]; you do not pick on this song. I saw him perform this about 15 years ago in a very small show so I got to get up close. As far as effects such as distortion or delay you will have to figure out on your own because sounds will vary for each AMP. Hope this helps.
