I play acoustic and electric Mandolin and Guitar, and Ukulele. Also, I play Piano and am an accomplished Clarinetist of 31 years.

My BEST suggestion to any new or old musician is LEARN to read Standard Music Notation. Being a Musician my entire life and reading music has made learning new musical instruments a breeze. Plus, the benefit is that you'll have more of a selection of music to play from reading Standard Music Notation, rather than being restricted to reading and playing only from Tabulature materials.

The GOOD side about Tabulature is that it helps a new musician visualize the fretboard and correlate the fingers with the notes/chords. At times I will use Tabbed music to play a song I don't have and Standard Music Notation sheet music for, so it's REALLY helpful to use even though I prefer to read music.
