Now you're splitting hairs to prove a point. A guitarist doing a handful of overdubs isn't exactly the same thing as being a band's bass guitarist. If you overdubbed some background vocals or sang lead on a song or two (out of a few dozen) would that make you the band's singer? No. Let's put it another way. Suppose the question was "Who played bass guitar with Van Halen?" There's two correct answers: Michael Anthony and Wolfgang Van Halen. Ed Van Halen has done some bass guitar overdubs, but he's still considered the band's guitarist, not its bassist. Or another way, "Who is the lead singer in the Who?" Roger Daltry. Pete Townshend sang lead vocals on several songs, but technically he's the band's guitarist, not its singer.

Technically, the Doors didn't have a bass player. Here's an excerpt from a 1983 interview with all three of the remaining members of the band, if you want the official answer, in their words:

John (Densmore): Yeah ... I think the choice of not to have a bass player was kind of ... we wanted to be different that way.

Denselow: Was that deliberate or just because you couldn't find somebody that fitted in?

John: Well, we auditioned bass players, a girl in fact ... but we sounded like The Rolling Stones ... sort of blues. So, we opted for a keyboard bass.

Ray (Manzarek): Well, fortunately that instrument came along. Up until I saw that thing in existence ... we thought we'd have to have a bass player. As John said, we did sound a lot like The Animals ... but wait a minute ... The Rolling Stones already exist and The Animals already exist ... There's no point us sounding like they sound and all of a sudden, there it was - that sweet little piano bass. It was about that big and it was like a third of a Fender Rhodes piano and it was all tuned an octave lower ... and I thought, "Okay, I can do that. You know I'll play the left hand, I can play boogie woogie piano, anyway, so I'll just do that ... right hand plays the organ" and that was our sound, like magic ... boom ... there it was.

Robbie (Krieger): Plus it left a lot of room for me to fool around , you know, without the bass.

Fair enough, Rush ain't for everyone. I got a 7 string about 10 years ago and loved it to death for about 6 months. Have barely played it since. It would have helped if there was an immense amount of material using it earlier. The only songs I had at the time were Morbid Angel ones, and then they retranscribed it for downtuned 6-string! Pissed me off.

i think patriotism is a good thing, well for the most part.
having pride for being American, or in Daz's case, a Brit, is a good thing because it attempts to bring everyone together under one common love: the love for your country. i personally am patriotic, and i say my pledge of allegiance with an accentuated God... i also stand respectfully at attention when the national anthem is being played, and fly a flag outside of my house.

Fair enough, Rush ain't for everyone. I got a 7 string about 10 years ago and loved it to death for about 6 months. Have barely played it since. It would have helped if there was an immense amount of material using it earlier. The only songs I had at the time were Morbid Angel ones, and then they retranscribed it for downtuned 6-string! Pissed me off.

I agree with you Daz, cultural globalization is a beautiful thing. For people to finally become as one and all work for a common goal would unleash so much potential. Just no worldwide power. That would lead to an oppressive oligarchy with no chance for revolution.

i think patriotism is a good thing, well for the most part.
having pride for being American, or in Daz's case, a Brit, is a good thing because it attempts to bring everyone together under one common love: the love for your country. i personally am patriotic, and i say my pledge of allegiance with an accentuated God... i also stand respectfully at attention when the national anthem is being played, and fly a flag outside of my house.

taking pride in anything that sets you apart from someone else that's not you fault is a recipe for disaster IMO
